Kannur University initiates process to check plagiarism

The KU Syndicate has decided to implement the UGC’s guidelines for ensuring the originality of the research theses being submitted by research scholars, though practical features of the anti-plagiarism measures being taken will be decided when they are ready for implementation.

Once the UGC’s guidelines are implemented, the anti-plagiarism certification will be mandatory for submitting research theses.

Yogesh Singh appointed new VC of DTU

Prof Singh was holding the post as additional charge following the office falling vacant in September 2015.

His predecessor Pradeep Kumar, had resigned from the post, in August 2015, four years before his term comes to an end, citing personal reasons.

"The government of Delhi has appointed Professor Yogesh Singh as the new Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University for a term of five years," an official statement said.

Singh has been the VC of the Maharaja Sayjirao University of Baroda from July 2011 to July 2014.

MHRD seeks Visitors Inquiry against Jamia VC

The MHRD has sought the President’s approval to launch a “Visitorial Inquiry” into the matter, as well as other allegations of administrative and financial irregularities against Talat Ahmad.

Reportedly, the government has recommended that the University Grants Commission (UGC) conduct a probe into at least five charges, including wasteful expenditure on the NAAC visit, arbitrary introduction of a supernumerary quota in admissions for wards of university staff and misuse of government accommodation.

No provision under Hyderabad University Act to transfer VC: MHRD

Reportedly, the MHRD has claimed there was "no provision" for the VC's transfer to another university under the UoH rules.

"The MHRD (ministry of human resources development) is the nodal ministry of all the central universities, including UoH, but has no role to play in day-to-day affairs of these central universities,'' the ministry said in an affidavit filed before the Hyderabad high court.

Dr Mailk's appointment was made on the basis of recommendations by the duly constituted search and selection committee during their meeting held on June 11 at Pune.

Officials added that Dr Malik is the first woman from the dental faculty to be appointed as the vice-chancellor of a deemed university.

According to official the committee had suggested three names, of which, Chancellor Vedprakash Mishra approved Dr Mailk for the appointment.

While construction of the new JUT building has begun in Namkom near Ranchi, the state government is yet to begin the process for appointing a Vice Chancellor and other officials.

The delay in setting up is now a topic of discussion among students and teachers of different engineering colleges in the state, who feel that technical university would not only help in streamlining the delayed academic sessions, but would also in infusing quality in the technical education system of the state engineering colleges.

New Goa University VC likely after June 16

The three-member selection committee headed by Raghunath Mashelkar has already submitted names for the potential new VC of Goa University, the announcement of the name will take place only after June 16.

Reportedly, Goa University Chancellor Mridula Sinha is travelling at present and will return on June 16, after which she will select a candidate for the post from those recommended by the committee.

Accreditation is a misnomer

Accreditation is a misnomer, a college or a university that is located in the dense forest or highly backward area should not be judged on the same parameters with which they judge a university located in a metro city. Our universities are not innovative, they do not come up with new things, do not allow creation of ideas so we should not claim for top rank among the universities globally.
