The move is aimed to strengthen the University's strategic relationship with Indian research institutions and to enhance academic, research and translational capacities of India and the UK.

Indo-Japan strengthens collaboration science & technology field

The Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Dr. Harsh Vardhan held a meeting with the Japanese Minister for Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT) Hirodie Hase.

The meeting was a follow up of the six-month earlier meeting held in Japan.

India and Japan are in close collaboration on several focus areas and projects like Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Ocean Sciences and Marine Instrumentation, High Skill Development, Use & Analysis of Big Data, Research & Development and Bio Information.

Four medical institutions from India among top 10 in research publication

In India, Only 25 (4.3 percent) institutions published more than 100 papers a year, which is accounted for 40.3 percent of the country's total research output in the decade.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences ranked third with more than 1,100 annual publications while the Massachusetts General hospital ranked first with more than 4,600 papers and Mayo Clinic ranked second with more than 3,7000 publications.

PhD research period to be considered as teaching experience

Reportedly, Commission recently made the announcement asking all the universities to start considering the Ph. D research period as equivalent to teaching experience.

''The period of active service spent on pursuing Research Degree i.e. for acquiring Ph.D. degree simultaneously without taking any kind of leave may be counted as teaching experience for the purpose of direct recruitment/promotion to the post of Associate Professor and above,'' the new circular by UGC committee stated.

In the Budget 2016, the government has planned to establish 62 new Navodaya Vidyalayas within a period of two years. Stress on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to increase focus on quality of education.

It has also planned to establish Regulatory architecture to be provided to ten public and ten private institutions to emerge as world-class Teaching and Research Institutions.

It has also proposed to have Digital Depository for School Leaving Certificates, College Degrees, Academic Awards and Mark sheets to be set-up.

Researcher from Central University of Orissa gets Young Scientist Award

Ph.D. Scholar of Dept. of Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources (DBCNR), Central University of Orissa, Swati Sakambari Mishra, was awarded as “Young Scientist” in the 6th Odisha Environment Congress (OEC).

The Congress was held at Bhubaneswar during 22nd -24th December 2015.  She was awarded for presentation of her research work- “Growth and anti-oxidant response under chromium stress: screening of Indian Wild rice for phytoremediation” under the guidance of Dr. Debabrata Panda, Asst Professor of the Dept. in OEC- 2015.
