New Deemed University Regulations to offer greater autonomy, reduce bureaucratic control

Create: 06/18/2016 - 12:56

Owing to certain stringent and regressive clauses, the 2010 regulation has been contentious (mostly within private Deemed universities) since its inception.

President FICCI, Harshavardhan Neotia while endorsing the above move by the Ministry emphasized that this announcement clearly indicates the current government’s intent to liberalise higher education in the country.  This move is in line with FICCI’s vision for higher education and will be a game changer with a positive impact on the availability of highly skilled workforce in the country.

UGC eases norms for deemed universities

Create: 05/25/2016 - 22:00

The UGC has removed restrictions on the appointment of deemed university chancellors allowing promoters of the institution to occupy the post. This was prohibited under the old regulation of 2010.

Another amendment provides for government nominees only in universities which are either controlled by the Centre or receive at least half of their funds from it. For the remaining, UGC will appoint a nominee out of a panel of names made by a search committee.
