MCI has failed to maintain uniform standards of medical education, failed to produce a competent doctors: Parliamentary Committee

There have been allegations that the MCI has been reduced to only a advisory body and seems to push and protect the interest of private sector. There are issues of corruption and mis-governance in MCI, which are taking toll of medical services in India.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee has called for a complete restructuring of the Medical Council of India (MCI), the apex medical education regulatory body in the country on the ground that it has failed in its mandate as a regulator of medical education and profession.

SC forms committee to oversee functioning of MCI

The other members of the committee are Vinod Rai (Former CAG of India) as well as Prof S.K Sareen (Director, ILBS) to oversee all the activities of MCI for the next year.

A five judge constitution bench of the apex court in a landmark judgement governing the medical education in the country directed the formation of a special committee ( Oversight Committee) to oversee the functioning of the Council, till the pending reforms related to its structure as well as its functioning are properly put in place.

Government Science College Principal booked for alleged embezzlement of funds

Gujarat Police has booked N D Patel of Walam village in Mehsana, following complaint by Rajesh Purohit, current principal of the college.

Purohit, in his complaint has said that the misappropriation of funds came up during audit of accounts since the 2012.

As per Purohit's complaint, Patel used to withdraw money deposited by students as fees using cheques. He was booked under section 409 IPC (criminal breach of trust).
