North-South divide on part of the academia is sickening. UGC needs men of eminence and integrity as its chiefs. It hardly hardly matters if the UGC chief hails from Bihar, Assam or Kerala.

Nice to know that finally the search committee has recommended two eminent persons from "South India". As earlier only the persons of "North India" were only being considered and finally appointed to most of the coveted posts. Incredible India is changing for good!!!!!

Transparency of UGC's functioning, the capability and skills of the officials, defining the tasks of the experts panel, seminar sessions at the UGC regional offices restructured and headed by academicians (the existing ones are of no use) are some of the immediate tasks for the new Chairman

Pl for god's sake do not divide the country by talking about north or south... I myself from South and working in North, which makes no difference.. If you see both of the shortlisted candidates, they both are from North and but have huge experience in working with reputed universities/institutions located in South.. Given the nature of responsibilities associated with this assignment, a person with a VISION to build India needs to be be selected. I think the Govt. must use the experiences of eminent Professor like S.E.Hasnain towards building nation. Its a huge task and we are with you to support for all the success.
