Pay Hike for engineering faculty in Karnataka

The State Cabinet of Karnataka has given its nod to implement the revised pay scales of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for teaching staff. The revised scale applies to all government, aided and university constituent engineering colleges in the State.

Higher Education Minister V S Acharya has announced the decision stating that it will come into effect from January 1, 2006. A whopping sum of Rs. 120 crores will come as arrear amount from January 1, 2006 and March 31, 2010. Centre will bear 80% of the arrears while the state government will pay Rs. 30 crores.

“The State Government will take the burden of the revised pay with effect from April 2010” Acharya added.

The annual burden on the State Government due to the enhanced pay scales is Rs 79.32 crore. Around 19 engineering colleges will benefit from the decision. The retirement age of the staff would be increased from 60 to 62 years.

As per the revision, the pay scales for assistant professors (lecturers) will increase from the existing pay band of Rs 8,000-13,500 to Rs 15,600-39,100. While for Associate Professors, the pay band would increase from Rs 12,000-18,300 to Rs 37,400-Rs 67,000.

For the professors and principals, the pay band would increase from Rs 16,400-22,400 to Rs 37,400-67,000.
