A non-bailable warrant has been issued against the Chancellor of CMJ University in Meghalaya. Mukul Sangma, Meghalaya Chief Minister has also hinted that the government may ask the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the illegal functioning of the University.
CMJ University Chancellor, Chandra Mohan Jha has been absconding for the past two weeks. While, last week Meghalaya police arrested Mrinal Kanti Deb, registrar of the private university, for cheating and forgery.
âFIRs have been filed in different cities of the country. We are looking if the case should be handed over to a central agency," said Sangma.
However, Accra (Ghana) branch of the university has been barred from recruiting students as it doesnât meet accredition norms.
CM also said that the Mahatma Gandhi University has also been brought under the scanner of the Meghalaya Private Universities (Regulation of Establishment and Maintenance of Standards) Act, 2012.
âIn good faith, the universities were given permission to operate, but some seem to have taken this for a ride and this is distressing,â he added.
Earlier, R.S. Mooshahary, Governor of state who is also the visitor of the varsity exposed various irregularities in its functioning and termed its degrees as âillegalâ and filed an FIR, reported India TV.
