The registrar of Saurashtra University (SU) Gajendra Jani has been barred from functioning in the post by Gujarat High Court due to lack of requisite qualification. The court also issued notices to the state government, Jani and others on a petition by Mukesh Chavda, a senate member of the university.

Jani was removed as a registrar by the chancellor in February, 2011 as he was not well qualified for the post. The division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice J.B. Pardiwala sought to know from the university vice chancellor why the orders of the chancellors for removal of registrar Gajendra Jani were not followed.

The chancellor directed the university February 1, 2011 to remove Jani as he didn't have the requisite qualification or experience to hold the post of registrar.

The case would be heard next July 14, 2011.
