MHRD asks VCs of 4 Central Universities to develop National Ranking System

Vice Chancellors of four Central Universities have been asked by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to develop National Ranking System.

The working group has been asked to submit its report within one month. The decision was taken during the two-day retreat of the Vice Chancellors of Central Universities with the Union Minister of HRD, Smriti Irani.  

UGC to rethink ban on distance PhD

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will now seek legal opinion on its two-year-old ban on MPhil and PhD courses through distance learning. The decision came after universities have claimed that such a ban is hampering their autonomy. The commission discussed the matter at its last meeting on February 3, 2011 and decided to seek legal opinion on whether its regulations can override powers conferred on the universities by their acts to offer such courses, a source said.

UGC sanctions Rs. 1.62 Cr to Allahabad University under special assistance programme

University Grants Commission (UGC) amended the UGC Regulation, for the third time in 2009 which said that NET (National Eligibility Test) or SLET (State Level Eligibility Test) shall remain the minimum eligibility condition required for recruitment and appointment of lecturers in universities, colleges or institutions.
